Since Txirte is a Portuguese brand that wants to be a t-shirts reference in cities, regions and countries, we would have to have a collection from Portugal.
We wanted to honor our long and rich history, our founder and the 880th anniversary of Portugal. We have Europe's oldest borders and, based on the independence date, we are one of the oldest countries in the world.
On July 25, 1139, D. Afonso Henriques, obtained the most emblematic of his victories, in the battle of Ourique where he defeated the Moors. After the battle, and with the support of the Portuguese nobles, he was hailed as sovereign king and declared independence from Castile-Leon, although they only recognized the kingdom of Portugal in 1143, through the Treaty of Zamora.
From 1139 onwards, royal documentation began to refer to D. Afonso with the title of king, seeming to suggest the link between Ourique's result and the internal recognition of royalty.
